Thank you for your prayers for my paperwork! So far, my paperwork seems to be going through all the correct channels. We were able to get an extension on my visa before my visa expired, which was a huge blessing. However, things kind of stalled for a few weeks because of problems on the Honduran government side of things. They recently had an election, and many things were changing. However, things seem to be back on track, and I should have my documents soon.
School has been going very well since we switched to full days. My students have been doing much better with the extra class time, and their grades have shown great improvement. They say that next year we should be back to a regular schedule for the first time since February 2020. I’m excited that things will finally be back to normal. We are having several teachers leave as one is getting married, and two others are going to Africa as missionaries. Pray that we will get enough new teachers to help fill in the gaps for the coming school year.
During the last few months, we have had several church activities. In March, we had a ladies’ conference in which over 300 ladies came from all over Honduras. It was a great time of fellowship as I was able to see friends that I hadn’t seen in a while. We also celebrated Watermelon Day, Mothers’ Day, Farmer Day, Bible clubs, and many other activities. The church has been growing drastically over the last few months as well. We have had salvations and baptisms almost every Sunday. I have had several new kids begin coming on my bus route because of the Bible club that we did in that area a few weeks ago.
I haven’t had a crazy adventure to share in a while, but this time I do. On Farmer Day, we dress up in boots, hats, and plaid. I was wearing a pair of cowboy boots that I had found at a secondhand store. They were super cheap and super cute, so I figured it was a win-win situation. That is, until the heel started falling off as I did bus route that Sunday morning. I managed to hobble my way to Sunday school where I began to pull out my Bible and notebook to teach my lesson, only to discover that I hadn’t closed the lid on my water bottle tightly enough and it had turned upside down in my bag. My notes and everything except my Bible were completely soaked. The lesson still went well as I remembered much of what I had planned to say. I just didn’t walk around too much so my shoes didn’t flip-flop about. (Ironically, the lesson was about having joy during difficulties.) Afterwards, a friend ran to the store to try to find superglue for my shoes as a different friend lent me her boots since I was part of the music group that was supposed to open the service. The boots were two sizes too small, but a girl’s got to do what a girl’s got to do. My bootless friend then stayed behind with my boots as I ran to sing. I managed to arrive just in time to walk in with the group. By the time I was able to make my way back to the classroom, the super glue had arrived, been applied, and had dried. Thankfully, there were no more mishaps.
Pray for us as we are finishing our school year and for safe travels this summer.
Sincerely,
Ericka Wright
