If I’m starting with an adventure, I suppose I should start with the adventure I’m on at this very moment. As I write this letter, I’m sitting on a rock on the side of the road with several other people from our church. But let’s go back to the beginning. A few days ago, our seminary students went to a conference about three hours away. The conference finished this morning. Since we needed to send one of the church buses to pick them up, the Hodges decided that we should make a day out of it. There’s a park and a soccer field nearby. A few of my students even came along! I took my laptop so I could get some work finished. Eventually I put it all away and had a little fun cheering on my students and friends as they played soccer. We had a great time! Then we all loaded up to head back home. Now, this morning, we had no problems. It was mainly downhill, and we had fewer people with us. But on the way home, it was the opposite. We made it about halfway home before the bus started acting up. The bus made a valiant effort before the transmission gave out. So now we are waiting for help. But never fear! We still know how to make the best out of bad situations. I am currently getting caught up on work. To my left there’s a vicious game of Uno going on, and I’m surrounded by people laughing and having a good time. Hey, a mechanic just showed up! So now we’ll see what’s going on and hope things get fixed soon. (Update: We did make it home! It only took a few hours longer than we had planned. Even with the unplanned stop, we had a great time!)
Every February we have the privilege of attending a conference for English Speakers. It’s definitely one of my favorite times of the year. Even though I speak Spanish, there’s just something special about being able to hear the preaching of God’s Word in my native tongue. We also get to see other missionaries that live around Honduras. It’s a time of encouragement for all of us as we share prayer requests and blessings.
In January, I was also given the position of assistant Sunday school teacher for the young ladies (ages 16-23). I will have the privilege of teaching one Sunday every month. We also divided our children’s church into two groups since it was growing too large. I am now part of the rotation of teachers for the children’s church hour with the 3-6-year-olds. February, I finished my first month of rotation. That was an interesting experience! I enjoyed the opportunity, but it was definitely different than teaching my teenagers!
Upcoming Events: Ladies’ conference, Abeka teachers’ workshop, and Farmer’s day at church! Sometimes I don’t know how we fit it all in. But what’s life without a little adventure?
Thank you for your prayers!
