Dear Friends,
I made it back to Honduras! I’m excited to be back for our next year. I did enjoy the time I was able to spend with friends and family, as well as visiting all of my supporting churches and a few new ones!
God answered one of my biggest prayer requests! Much of the construction near our area has been finished! There is now only one construction stop between our town and the capital instead of three. Also, it is halfway past our town on the other side. They will eventually need to begin construction there again, but for now, I’m able to return to my previous bus schedule without too much interruption.
My bus kids were very happy to see me again! The numbers did drop some throughout the summer since there was not a consistent worker for the route. Most said they would be returning now that I’m back. I even had a few new kids tell me on visitation that they wanted to begin riding the route!
My new school year will begin on Tuesday, August 15. I am going to be the principal teacher for eighth and ninth grade, a total of 17 students. I am also going to teach the English class for several other grades. My friend April is joining our ministry this year as the Kindergarten teacher. She is a friend from my home church, and I’m excited to have her! But even with her help, we are still shorthanded this year. Pray that God will give us each the strength we need and the ability to work together this year!
My adventure this month again was in my car. But it was probably not what you think. My friend April and I were headed out for the evening. I got to the car first to wait for April. I was on my phone when I noticed something moving out of the corner of my eye. At first I thought it was just a flickering light in the night. But then I realized it wasn’t. It was a cockroach. A very large cockroach. Now, I can take care of scorpions, snakes, and spiders without too much trouble. But I HATE cockroaches. I leaped out of the car, sending everything in my lap flying! I then explained the situation to a startled April. Neither one of us wanted to go anywhere until we found it. So we tentatively looked for it. We finally found it again, and after a few squeals and a lot of hesitation, I finally managed to kill it. Then we got in the car and started down the road. We made it about halfway to our destination when April started screaming from the passenger seat. There was another huge insect! But with the new road construction, there was no place to pull over! I continued driving and we both continued squealing as I drove for a few more miles before there was a convenient place to pull over. Before the car had even stopped rolling, April was out of the car, leaving me to take care of the monster. It turned out to be a grasshopper, so I was able to take care of that one pretty quickly. But in the meantime, several Hondurans came out to see why there were two white girls screaming in their front yard. By the time it was all over, we were both crying from laughing so hard! It was quite an adventure.
I can’t wait for this next year to start! Thank you for your prayers and support!
Sincerely,
Ericka Wright
