Dear Friends,
In my last letter, I asked you to pray for Esdras, one of my seventh graders. I want to let you know that God is answering your prayers! This month I have really seen a change in his attitude. The first day that he raised his hand to answer a question in class, my mouth almost dropped open. Since then, his attitude and participation have continued to improve. But please don’t stop praying! Continue to pray that God will soften the hearts of all of my students.
A few Sundays ago, our church started a new bus route in the town of Sabanagrande. Of all the towns we have bus routes in, Sabanagrande has the largest population. However, it also has the least amount of people coming on our routes. We decided to redistribute the route a little bit to try to reach more people. I am part of this new route. As I have visited in that area, I have found that it is teeming with children! I am really excited about all of the possibilities. We already have a few children that have expressed interest in coming, as well as about four that are coming on a regular basis. But I would really like to see this route grow. There are so many people that could be reached with the Gospel!
Now for another adventure story! During a recent Saturday visitation, I had an interesting experience. It had been raining very hard all week (Praise the Lord for rain!), and the ground was pretty muddy. My partner Amely and I were dropped off at a place where neither of us had ever been before, so we weren’t exactly sure where to go. (One thing about the roads around here—you never know when a small cow path is going to turn into the main road of a small town in the middle of nowhere.) We followed the muddy road down to a fork. The right road led to a river we would have to slosh across. The left fork led to a cow pasture. First, we slid our way through the muddy cow pasture. At the end of that path, there was a house where my partner Amely was able to go through the plan of salvation with an elderly lady. Unfortunately, the lady was not very receptive. Then, because we could find no more houses on that side, we went back to the fork in the road and crossed the river. On the other side, we found another trail that led to another house. After greeting the lady of the house, Amely nudged me forward. She’s good about trying to get me to practice my Spanish. At first, I wasn’t quite sure what to say. But with a little prodding from her, I was able to give the complete plan of salvation. I know I stuttered a lot and didn’t get every word right, but Amely helped me along and the lady seemed very interested in what I was saying! She did not accept Christ that day, but I am very thankful that I helped plant a seed!
I also had the opportunity to teach my first Sunday school lesson here! I assist with the young teen girls’ Sunday school class. The regular teacher was out of town, so I was given the opportunity to fill in. I was extremely nervous, but the girls seemed very interested in what God had laid on my heart. I’m so excited to see all the ways that God is allowing me to serve!
Thank you for
your continued prayers and intercession on the behalf of me and my students!
Sincerely, Ericka Wright
